Parent Responsibilities

The most successful students have parents that are actively involved in their child's piano lessons. 

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ARRANGE MEETINGS WITH YOUR TEACHER WHEN YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT YOUR CHILD.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SIT IN ON LESSONS WHENEVER YOU HAVE TIME. 

PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CHILD BY DOING THESE THINGS:

  1. Providing a quiet practice environment to support your child's ability to concentrate and focus on their assignment.
  2. Providing good equipment including a piano, bench, metronome and proper lighting so your child can develop good body posture, body balance, rhythm and reading skills.
  3. Helping your child establish a consistent practice time each day so your child learns how to structure their time.
  4. Avoiding too many extracurricular activities to eliminate obstacles that detract from consistent practice.
  5. Establishing the proper tone for music lessons.  Children should recognize that music lessons are an important, academic subject.  Music lessons should be fun, but developing good skills requires long term commitment and hard work. 
  6. Reviewing weekly piano assignments and providing feedback to the teacher regarding progress at home.
  7. Listening to piano practice when possible to demonstrate that you are committed and interested in piano assignments. 
  8. Communicating timely with the teacher when questions or issues arise.
  9. Sitting in on piano lessons when possible to gain a better understanding of how the lessons are taught and what skills your student is working on. 
  10. Insisting the student perform in recitals and piano examinations.  This sets the tone that piano lessons are important and tangible goals can be identified, worked on, and achieved.  Children develop a sense of responsibility towards parents, the teacher and program activities.      
Parent participation is the key to children being successful with their piano lessons.  Each child's needs will vary depending upon age, maturity and learning style.
